This is a story about the language—and power—of laughter. In a refugee camp on the Syrian-Jordanian border, an unlikely friendship is formed between two young women—Timea, a European clown on a mission to spread joy, and Hanadi, a Syrian refugee convinced that war has robbed her of laughter.
It’s a character driven dramedy like Orange Is the New Black, but instead of being set in a prison, it’s set in an abortion clinic. We interviewed 8 women and 1 man and dramatized their stories. They are funny, sad, awkward, surprising, and most importantly, normal.
In our second episode, 4MileCircus partners Sean Mannion and Nicole Solomon sit down with filmmaker Christina Raia (Summit, IndieWorks film series), to discuss social media and crowdfunding. Part two of a four part interview. We also share a social media tip on using images to attract attention, and Nicole and Christina try to guess the oldies song Sean misheard as containing the lyric “She’s a slut you mourn, and you will know.”
